HOLY SPIRIT NORTHSIDE CATHETER LAB
The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (CCL) offers a wide range of both cardiac and vascular procedures - including both diagnostic and interventional. The CCL is equipped with state of the art technology and a highly trained team who ensure that the patient is always in the safest of hands. Our services include:- Both Cardiac and Vascular Angiograms
- Both Cardiac and Vascular Angioplasties
- Septal Ablations
- Electrophysiology and Radio Frequency Ablations
- Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closures
- Mitral Valvuloplasty
- Permanent Pacemaker Insertion
- Internal Pacing
- Internal Cardiac Defibrillators
- Percutaneous AAA repairs.
- Trans Oesophageal ECHO (TOE)
- External Cardioversion.

HOLY SPIRIT NORTHSIDE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
The Holy Spirit Northside Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a twelve-bed, fully-equipped facility, staffed by an expert team of medical and nursing professionals. The ICU is set up to manage a diverse clientele requiring acute medical management and is strategically located near the operating theatres and emergency centre.The ICU offers a full range of services including:
- Mechanical ventilation
- Post-operative recovery after major surgery, including open heart surgery
- Complex haemodynamic monitoring
- Acute renal dialysis
- Management of complex organ dysfunction
- Emergency response to all areas of the hospital.
The ICU staff comprises of an Intensivist, medical fellow available 24 hours per day and a dedicated Registered Nursing staff, all of whom are committed to providing high quality care to our patients.
We have a visitors’ waiting room* located close by and family members are encouraged to avail themselves of this facility while a patient is in ICU. We tend to restrict visitors to family only during this time but such arrangement can be discussed with the staff on an individual basis. Visitors to the ICU will need to use the courtesy telephone* outside the unit to alert staff of their presence (*See pictures below).

ICU patients are normally recovering from major surgery and as such need rest to assist in their recovery. The rest periods for all patients are shown below.

Who Are We?Northside Pathology is a not-for-profit organisation under the auspices of the Sisters of Charity and Holy Spirit Health Service - a partnership between the Sisters of Charity, and Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters.
Established in January 2001, Northside Pathology has a vision to quality diagnostic pathology service to the medical community, meeting the needs essential for both doctors and patients.
Our laboratory is conveniently located on The Prince Charles and Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospitals campus.
What can we offer you?Experienced collectors are a necessity and at Northside Pathology we have recruited pathology specimen collectors with many years experience. All of our collectors are able to collect a full range of specimens including Arterial Blood Gases and Nasopharyngeal Aspirates. We are also confident with paediatric blood collection.

Northside Pathology also offer an IV Cannulation service to the Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospital during our onsite hours. We insert over 400 cannulas per month.

HOLY SPIRIT NORTHSIDE CENTRAL STERILISING SERVICES DEPARTMENT (CSSD)
The CSSD handles the reprocessable equipment and instrumentation used in procedures in the Holy Spirit Northside (HSN) Private Hospital’s Operating Theatres, Endoscopy Unit and Cardiac Catheter Laboratories. A very professional group of dedicated, trained, sterilising staff wash, sort, arrange, package and sterilise instrumentation according to Australian and New Zealand Standards. We ensure that the procedural area personnel have the right equipment at the right time in a sterile condition (germ and bug free).
The HSN CSSD promotes high standards of practice in the provision of sterilising and disinfection services. Staff are trained in methods of sterilisation and disinfection provision of sterile supplies, control of microbial contamination and infection, and in other areas of medical use of such equipment.

HOLY SPIRIT NORTHSIDE CARDIAC WARD
This unit provides for privately insured patients from the catchment area which includes greater Brisbane, and extending north to Mackay, and south to the Gold Coast. We offer state of the art facilities for patients requiring diagnostic and interventional cardiology plus cardiac surgery and are fully supported by two cardiac catheterisation laboratories, intensive care and operating theatres located adjacent to the ward. Our team of health professionals, including nurses, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, physiotherapists and other allied health staff, provide a concept of Total Care that enables patients to take advantage of what can be a “new lease of life” following surgery or interventional procedures. We offer education sessions while an inpatient and give referrals to rehabilitation programs at facilities convenient to your home.

Visiting Hours ::..
- We welcome family and friends into the unit between the hours of 10:00am until 1:00pm and 3:00pm until 8:00pm
- We observe a rest period for all patients between 1:00pm and 3:00pm
- Partners and siblings have unrestricted visiting privileges (within reason).
